AI commercial or traditional shoot: what really changes in budget, time and approvals

A side by side comparison of AI commercials and traditional shoots, covering budget, timeline, control and approvals, and when a hybrid of both is the smart choice.

An AI commercial replaces the shoot days with generated shots, so it is usually faster and cheaper when an idea needs places, scale or effects. A traditional shoot still wins when the ad depends on a real performance, a real celebrity or your exact product in someone's hands. Many of the best ads now mix both: real talent on camera, with AI building the world around them.

iklipse is an AI production agency for advertising in the GCC, Egypt and Cyprus. We make fully AI commercials and hybrid films, often as the AI production partner of advertising agencies.

Here is how the two routes compare side by side.

A fully AI commercial suits ideas that would be expensive to film.

For the Saudi National Day film for Toyota and Abdul Latif Jameel, we built the imagined worlds and the transitions that carry children from a classroom to a clay seaside, into space and into the desert beside a Toyota Hilux. The same children stay recognisable in every world. Filming that for real would mean several builds and locations.

The sci-fi trailer Before Us went further: aerial combat and collapsing cities, made without a single day on set.

A traditional shoot still suits ideas built on people.

If the ad lives on a real performance, a famous face or a product demonstration that must be exact, film it. Audiences in the region notice when a person or a dish looks wrong. AI can still help in post, with backgrounds, extensions and versions.

A hybrid gives you real people in worlds you could not afford to build.

For Que Gardens, Lobster Films shot the talent on blue screen and we generated every environment around him, matching lens, perspective and shadow shot by shot. The performance is real, and the scale is generated.

Approvals work differently with AI, so plan for them.

  • Share a shot list and style frames before anything is generated, so the brand approves the look early.
  • Agree how faces, likeness and voices are handled. Saudi Arabia's AI rules and brand policies increasingly ask for consent and clear records.
  • Decide if and how the ad is labelled as AI. Our guide to AI disclosure in ads covers the options.

Frequently asked questions

Will viewers know the ad is AI?

Sometimes, and that is fine when the idea is clearly imaginative. For realistic scenes, finishing by hand is what makes the difference.

Can my agency keep the idea while someone else makes the AI?

Yes. In our projects with VML and BPG, the agency kept the idea and the client, and iklipse produced the AI shots and versions.

Which route is cheaper?

For big worlds and many versions, AI. Our guide to AI video ad costs in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt has typical ranges.
