Meta's new AI video ad tools make the variations, and brands still need the idea

Meta's Advertising Week tools turn still images into video ads and find audiences from a sentence. What changed, and the default settings to check.

Meta's new AI ad tools can now turn a still product photo into a video ad, suggest fresh video concepts and find audiences from a plain-language description. Meta announced them at Advertising Week New York on 6 October 2026. The machine can now make the variations. The idea, the look and the limits still have to come from the brand, and some of the new settings switch themselves on unless someone in your team switches them off.

We are iklipse, a creative and AI production agency working across the GCC, Egypt, North Africa and the US. Most of our clients spend real money on Facebook and Instagram, so here is what changed, and what we would check this week.

Here is what Meta announced in New York.

Meta opened with a number: more than 60% of the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram goes to watching video. Most of the news follows from that.

  • Video from still images. Advantage+ creative can now generate video from an advertiser's existing static assets. Meta says this is generally available.
  • Product videos at scale. Catalog advertisers can turn product images into product videos, in beta for eligible advertisers through Ads Manager and the product video creator in Commerce Manager.
  • Ads Creative Studio, more widely. After months of testing, the studio is rolling out to more advertisers. It shows which creatives are working and why, generates new video concepts and variations, and lets you edit hooks, audio, clip length, text, subtitles and end scenes.
  • AI audience discovery. You describe your ideal customer in your own words and Ads Manager suggests relevant audiences in seconds. Meta says it comes to Detailed Targeting at the end of 2026.
  • A business AI assistant with a memory. The assistant in Ads Manager is being tested with longer memory, including past tests, seasonality and goals, and with the ability to import brand guidelines and tone of voice from other AI tools. Meta says agent features that build campaigns, generate images and copy and change budgets are coming, with previews and approvals.
  • Customer Lifecycle Strategy. Now open to all advertisers, it recommends excluding existing customers from acquisition campaigns.

Meta also says advertisers who adopt the assistant's recommendations often see 5% more conversions at the same cost per conversion. That is Meta's own figure, with no published method, so treat it as a claim to test.

Two default settings deserve a look before the end of October.

The quieter news matters more for brand teams. According to an advertiser notice reported by PPC Land and others, Meta will turn on product browsing in existing ads on 28 October 2026. With it on, someone who taps your ad may first see product information and personalised suggestions inside Facebook or Instagram before reaching your website. You can opt out from the notice before the deadline, or per ad in Ads Manager under Advantage+ creative enhancements. At the time of writing we could not find a Meta Help Center or newsroom page about it, so check your own account notices.

Threads is the second. Since Threads ads went global in January 2026, Threads has been included in Advantage+ placements by default. If your work was made for Instagram and you have never looked at how it sits in a Threads feed, your ads may already be running there.

AI will make the variations, and your brand still has to supply the idea.

Generative video from a still image is genuinely useful. A catalogue of 200 products can get motion without 200 shoots. A winning ad can be tested in ten cuts in an afternoon. We use the same logic in our own AI production: for Ka'Chava we built a library of AI product visuals, macro pours and lifestyle scenes, art directed in-house so every frame looked shot on set.

The phrase that matters there is art directed. A tool that makes variations will happily make forty versions of a weak idea. It will also make choices about pacing, motion and text that nobody in your marketing team approved. On a skincare or food brand, a generated camera move that warps the product or invents a texture can say something untrue about what the customer will receive.

So the order of work stays the same. First a clear idea and a defined look: colours, type, how the product moves, what never happens to the logo. Then the machine fills the shelf. Meta's plan to let the assistant import brand guidelines makes this more pressing, because the guide you give it is the guide it follows. A vague brand book produces vague ads at scale.

Here is the checklist we would run this week.

  1. Find the product browsing notice. Decide per account before 28 October. If your site carries the brand story, consider opting out or switching off product browsing on hero ads.
  2. Audit Advantage+ creative enhancements. Open each live ad and see which automatic enhancements are on. Keep the ones you have tested, switch off the rest.
  3. Check placements. Look at your ads in the Threads preview. If they read badly, untick Threads at ad set level.
  4. Review every generated video before it runs. Watch for product distortion, wrong colours, unreadable Arabic text and claims the visuals imply.
  5. Write a one-page AI rule sheet. What the tools may change, and what they may never touch. Feed the same sheet to the assistant when that feature reaches your account.
  6. Test audience discovery against what you know. Compare its suggestions with your real buyers before giving it budget.

Our social media management team builds these checks into monthly reporting for clients in the Gulf, Egypt and the US, where Arabic and English versions of every ad need checking.
